Why PDC

With 40 years of experience in the business of producing books, PDC is known for its precision, attention to detail and excellence.  Many of the major publishing houses such as John Wiley & Sons, Harper Collins, Random House, and Simon & Schuster among several others select PDC to manage the production of their books.

Because PDC is a full-service book development company, we can inherently save you time, money and the associated headaches that come with publishing a work.  Our goal is always to help you produce a superior book.  Our team consists of seasoned veterans with significant experience in a variety of fields including business, sociology, psychology, and popular non-fiction to name a few.  Their expertise reduces the associated learning curve, shortens the production time and most importantly provides you with a product of the highest quality available.

After we receive your manuscript, we begin with a developmental edit.  Because the others in the process—the copy editor, the proofreader, the designer and the project manager—all work with you from the ground level, they can work in synergy to eliminate redundancies, improve quality and produce the finished work that you deserve.

We work with many of the biggest names in the business.  Often, a big New York publishing house subcontracts its manuscripts to a book development company.  In many cases, that company is PDC.  We can offer you the same quality that you would receive from a larger organization; however, we can provide you with an intensive level of author-focused service.  The combination of quality and service that PDC’s clients enjoy is difficult to find in this industry.

Many of the large publishing houses produce more than 2,500 books per year.  If you feel as though your book is so specialized that it will get lost with an industry giant, PDC can help your book reach its intended audience, or perhaps you felt as though the terms of your last book were one sided.  PDC has relationships with Red Honor and other publishing houses.  If after the completion of your book we feel as though we have a fit, PDC will work with you to find the most advantageous deal possible.

Our menu-driven service offerings allow us to provide you with the solution that works best for you.  We can take your manuscript through all of necessary processes required to produce a completed work up until it is ready to be printed.  PDC can contract with a printer on your behalf, or you can use your own.  We will gladly take on any phase of the project.  For example, you can choose to use your own editors, and PDC will design and layout the project.  If you have a design specialist that you feel comfortable working with, we can manage the editing process.

A wide range of production services, including word processing and typemarking, the production of print-optimized art and photos, the composition of tables and graphs, and final pagination and composition of the entire project including the creation of an index are available from PDC.  In addition to normal text design, PDC also offers cover design.

Quality is the key.  In efforts to drive down costs as far as possible, many in our industry outsource the production of their books to offshore outfits in other countries.  In the production process, mastery of the English language and cultural communications and design nuances are essential to producing a superior work.  Often, when a manuscript is shipped overseas for production, attention to detail is lost and quality suffers.  A work that once had potential to be great, becomes mediocre at best.

Additional value to the customer… Many of our customers also have their own house guidelines that are used in addition to, or instead of, certain standard rules. PDC will gladly incorporate these particular style preferences.  We have earned our reputation by being the vendor of choice for rush projects, unusual writing or author styles, difficult subject matter, and those books requiring a high level of quality control. This reputation is based on the importance we place on project management.

Each PDC project manager is responsible for keeping the books assigned to him or her on schedule and communicating the status of these projects to our clients. Weekly status reports are sent to each client detailing the projected schedule and page breakdown for each project. Truly a menu-driven service, PDC’s project managers work for you at the level you choose. Rigorous quality checks are a standard PDC practice. Errors such as inconsistencies, typos, bad breaks, and poor layout have been corrected before you ever see your pages.

With PDC, you receive the same quality as a New York publishing house paired with direct, personalized service and expertise that many authors feel is lacking in the industry.  At PDC, your book is the center of our attention.
